Yesterday my little boy had a birthday. He loves sports, so most of his cakes are sports related. I've made a soccer ball cake, a basketball cake, a football cake, a team "Storm" cake in the past. Since t-ball season just started my little guy wanted a baseball cake. He wanted chocolate cake, so I thought I'd make a baseball glove cake so we could have chocolate frosting on it.
I saw two ideas that I used. I made the baseball glove part from Parenting.com and the baseball cupcake idea from Kraft. He loved it!
It's not perfect (non of my cakes are since I am NOT a perfectionist), but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out and it tasted pretty good too.
I made one 9" round cake and then 6 cupcakes. I trimmed the glove a little bit like it showed on Parenting.com. I couldn't decide what frosting recipe to make, so I used by butter frosting recipe from my trusty Better Homes and Gardens cookbook. I set aside a little bit of it while the frosting was still white (for the cupcakes) and then added cocoa to frost the glove.
