I wanted to make snickerdoodles today to take to my piano recital tomorrow. I looked at all of my favorite baking blogs to find the perfect recipe. I couldn't find one that looked perfect (from the pictures). The cookeis were either too flat or too puffy or too crunchy looking.
I decided to make my childhood favorite recipe for snickerdoodles that came from my grandma. They didn't disappoint. They were perfect. Not too crunchy, not too flat, not too puffy. Mmm...Yummy!
Snickerdoodles
recipe from my grandma
1 c. butter (my grandma used shortening)
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1/4 tsp. salt
2 3/4 c. flour (or more -- just enough to make the dough rollable)
2 T. sugar
2 tsp. cinnamon
Cream shortening/butter and sugar. Add egss. Stir in flour, cream of tartar and salt. Roll dough into small balls. Mix together sugar and cinnamon. Roll dough balls in cinnamon/sugar. Place on ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake for 8-10 minutes in a 375 degree oven.
Makes 4 dozen cookies
